Celebrating more than three decades of service with the City of Middleton, the Middleton Common Council on May 6 thanked retiring Director of Public Works/City Engineer Shawn Stauske with his own proclamation.

Friends, fellow servicemen, and family members of US Army Pfc. Dennis Stoppleworth gathered to celebrate the veteran’s induction into the Madison VA Hall of Heroes on Friday. Rick Stoppleworth shared a moving testimony of his late brother’s life, service, and awards during a ceremony at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. The Middleton Common Council will save $205,500 in borrowing as part of the 2025 Capital Borrowing Plan, thanks to action taken May 6 by the council.

Concluding a brief period of accelerated economic development activity, the Middleton Common Council on May 20 approved a plan to allow Thermo Fischer Scientific to expand in Middleton and keep 1,700 employees working in the city.

State legislators, school superintendents, and community leaders gathered at Middleton High School on May 7 for a public education forum focused on Wisconsin’s school funding system and the state budget. Organized by the Greater Dane County School District Governance Consortium, the event offered attendees a chance to learn more about how the state’s budget decisions directly impact local public schools.

Middleton High School’s Associate Principal for Teaching and Learning position remains open after Jamie Sims, who had accepted the role, decided instead to take a principal position at Milwaukee Academy of Science.

Other area communities are debating the presence of fluoride in drinking water, but the debate was put to rest on May 6, when the Middleton Common Council voted unanimously to continue adding the chemical to city drinking water.
