WAUNAKEE–Dolores G. (Hilgendorf) Acker, 1601 Dover Drive, Waunakee, passed away at age 94 on March 19, 2021. She was born at home on January 22, 1927, in Cross Plains as the first child of eight to Carl William and Catherine A. (Virnig) Hilgendorf. Early in her life, Dolores attended St. Francis Elementary School in Cross Plains and later graduated from Middleton High School.

Dolores married Waunakee native Henry Anthony Acker, Jr. on October 11, 1947 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Cross Plains. She previously worked at the Farmer's Mutual Insurance.

She was busy raising seven children: Barbara (Steve) Parrell, Thomas (Mary) Acker, Linda (Kent) Adler, Sue (Kenneth) Ripp, Mary (Loran) Schulz, Judy (James) Weitzel, and Jenny (David Naumann) Acker while also working on the farm. She enjoyed spending time planting a garden, harvesting, and canning, as well as sewing the majority of her children's clothes. In later years, Dolores was employed at Middleton Insurance, Jordon's Grocery Store, and Physicians Plus Clinic. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and attending baseball games especially Home Talent beginning when Hank was the pitcher, then when her sons-in-law, and grandsons played. Dolores was an active member of St. Bernard Catholic Church as a parish council member, Eucharistic Minister, and a trustee.

Dolores is survived by her husband of 73 years, Henry; her seven children; 11 grandchildren: Jeff (Shirley), Angie (Tom), Scott (Shelley), Jason (Jena), Justin (Heather), Jared (Amy), Brandon (Ashley), Brian (Chris), Stephanie (Matt), Caitlin (Derek), and Colton; 23 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Charlene Lang; Roger, Charles, and David Hilgendorf.

She was preceded in death by her parents (Carl in 1969 and Catherine in 1982); a grandson, Christopher S. Ripp (2013); and her younger siblings, Robert (1976), Donald (2007), and Elizabeth (Betty) Hilgendorf Pickarts (1984).

Funeral services for Dolores were held on March 24, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2015 Parmenter St., Middleton, Wis. Reverend Brian Wilk officiated with burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Madison.

The Acker family would like to express their gratitude to the Blue Team of Agrace Hospice for their excellent care for our mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice or a charity of your choice.
