The Middleton Common Council on Sept. 3 took action designed to clear the way for The Bruce Company’s Garden District development — but not without conditions.

MIDDLETON – Middleton High School’s former varsity head football coach alleged in a lawsuit that the school district made him “the fall guy” and forced his resignation when news of football players bullying others became public. 

Jason Pertzborn, the former head coach of Middleton High School’s football team, filed a lawsuit against the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District on Monday, claiming he was intimidated into signing an agreement to leave.

Shannon Valladolid, the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District’s director of information and public relations, on Wednesday issued a statement from the district responding to Pertzborn’s allegations and lawsuit. In it, the district disputed the former coach’s claim that he was forced to step down from the program. The district also said Pertzborn’s lawsuit, and a Notice of Claim included with it, made false allegations about the district’s students, staff and board members.

Pertzborn, who was also a Business Education teacher at MHS, resigned from that position, as well, on Jan. 26, 2023 amidst a locker room bullying scandal within the football program.

The Middleton Common Council and Mayor Emily Kuhn have proclaimed September at Library Card Sign-Up Month, and Sept. 29-Oct. 5 as Banned Books Week in the City of Middleton, thanks to a proclamation unanimously approved during the Sept. 3 council meeting.

Acting on a city planning staff recommendation, the Middleton Common Council on Sept. 3 approved developer T. Wall Enterprises’ proposal to replace town home units on Parmenter and Clark streets with one apartment building.

On Saturday, September 14^th, the Middleton Optimist Club is hosting it’s annual “Cops and Bobbers” event at Lakeview Park, which will be a morning full of learning, laughing, and fishing. Acting on the costs associated with hiring the firm to find a new Middleton Police Chief, the Middleton Common Council on Aug. 20 approved a $28,900 budget amendment to hire the firm and conduct two community forums.

Acting on a request from the Community of Bishops Bay LLC, the Middleton Common Council on Aug. 20 approved an application for the Agricultural Roads Improvement Program (ARIP) to provide funding for Oncken Road resurfacing.

The Middleton Common Council recently approved hiring a consultant to complete a survey to evaluate the historical and architectural significance of all properties within the city’s corporate boundaries.
