Taxes Remain the Same, Utility Bills to Increase in Black Earth

Black Earth residents will see some utility bills increase next year, but the Village’s mill rate will remain the same at $5.48 per thousand of equalized value. As recently as 2023-24 the local mill rate was at $7.46. Significant growth in the past two years to the village’s assessed value has driven that downward rate. That growth is a byproduct of the village’s recent property reassessment.

Mazomanie Sets 2026 Mill Rate at $2.34, Approves Budget

Mazomanie’s new Public Works Director is fitting right in, and the Village Board set the 2026 mill rate at $2.34—a slight drop over last year—as they discussed and passed the budget at their November and December meetings. Village Administrator Curt Erickson also informed the board that the village had not been taking advantage of all of its levy limit, specifically in terms of debt service.
