CROSS PLAINS–Lynette “Lyn” Jane Passini, 73, of Cross Plains, passed away on April 27, 2022, after a courageous fight against lung cancer.
Lyn was born on July 6, 1948 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison and grew up in Middleton. She was a 1966 graduate of Middleton High School where she was involved with Madrigal and Treble Clef singing groups.
Following high school, Lyn married James S. Passini of Middleton in April 1971, and attended UW-Madison. Shortly after college studies, she began employment at AnchorBank in Madison. While working there, a special group of co-workers created “the birthday club,” and for over 35 years they would have fun exploring towns in Wisconsin, traveling abroad, laughing and sharing memories. In 2014, Lyn retired from AnchorBank as Senior Vice President of Mortgage Lending after 43 years of service.
Following retirement, Lyn held various board positions for her Northwoods Condo Association, researched family genealogy, and was an avid spectator at all her grandchildren's sporting events.
Lyn thoroughly enjoyed working with the Middleton Chamber of Commerce (Past President), the Middleton Good Neighbor Festival, Middleton Youth Hockey and provided AARP tax preparation for seniors. Additionally, she was a volunteer poll worker at the Town of Cross Plains and was on the Middleton High School Reunion Committee. Always keeping active, in her “spare time,” she enjoyed boating, bird watching, bowling, fishing, golfing, finding unique treasures at craft shows and small town shops and attending a show or concert at the Overture Center in Madison.
Lyn is survived by her husband of 51 years, James “Jim” Passini of Cross Plains (who formerly operated the famed Rusty's Bar on University Avenue in Middleton); her son, Todd (Aimee) Passini of Middleton; along with her four grandchildren, McKenna, Avery, Gabe and Patrick; her younger sister, Terry (Peter) Schlicht of Prairie du Sac; and a loving support to her entire extended family. Lyn was preceded in death by her parents, Harold L. Legler (Feb. 16, 1977) and Wynona “Jane” (Cork) Legler (July 15, 2001).
A visitation with family and friends was at Gunderson Funeral Home, 7435 University Ave., in Middleton, on May 16, 2022, as well as a Celebration of Life gathering at the Holiday Inn West Hotel, 1109 Fourier Drive, in Madison, on May 17, 2022.
A special thank you to Agrace HospiceCare for the exceptional care and guidance you provided for Lyn, and appreciation to our extended family at Harbor Athletic Club in Middleton for their support during this journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Best Friends Animal Society, donations@bestfriends.org, or MHS Athletic Project, mcpasdfoundation.org.
