MHS’ ultimate team wins state title

Middleton’s ultimate team continued one of the most successful runs in Wisconsin high school history by defeating Madison West, 13-6, on May 24 at University Bay Fields to capture their third consecutive state championship.

Middleton has qualified for the High School National Invite (HSNI), scheduled for June 12-13 in Salem, Oregon. The event features the top 16 high school teams in the nation competing for a national championship.

The appearance will be the first in program history and the first by a Wisconsin boys team since Madison West competed at the event in 2019, finishing fifth nationally.

“HSNI has been a goal for this program for several years,” said Middleton coach Ryan Natzke. “This group has talked about it, worked toward it and believed it was possible.

Boys lacrosse team wins playoff opener

Middleton’s boys lacrosse team, which won the 2024 WIAA state championship, has title dreams once again this spring.

And the second-seeded Cardinals started their postseason in style with a 17-3 win over 18th-seeded Superior in a regional semifinal on May 28. Middleton advanced to the regional finals, where it hosted seventh-seeded Neenah on June 2.

If the Cardinals won there, they’d face either third-seeded Edgewood/Monona Grove or sixth-seeded Oregon co-op in a sectional semifinal Thursday. The location and time of that game weren’t known at press time.

The sectional finals are June 6, where top-seeded Waunakee could await. The state finals are then June 13 at Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium at Ashley Field.

In Middleton’s win over Superior, the Cardinals built a 9-2 halftime lead, extended that to 16-3 after three quarters and cruised home.

City language will protect Quarry Hill in TID plan

After six people spoke against including Quarry Hill in one of the city’s two new Tax Increment Finance (TIF Districts or TIDs), the Middleton Common Council on May 19 voted to direct city planning staff to prepare the draft map for TID 7 with Quarry Hill Conservancy in the TID but with language pledging the city would not develop the conservancy area.

Opitz Proposal Referred to Committees

During just his third meeting as District 6 Alder, Mark Opitz asked the Middleton Common Council on May 19 for city officials and the public to discuss including Pheasant Branch Road on the city’s Complete Streets Plan in conjunction with a review of the city’s draft Active Transportation Plan.

MCPASD Board Hears Concerns over Choir Program, Updates on Enrollment and Fees

The Middleton Cross Plains Area School District board of education honored five students for demonstrating the attribute of adaptability, showing they are open to change, stay positive when things don’t go as planned, and find ways to grow through challenges, adjusting and moving forward with confidence. Those students were Natalie Laschinger, Nolan Mikla, Jordan Walker and Molly Marshall, all from Glacier Creek Middle School, and Charlotte Henry, from Park Elementary School.
