Group Looks to Repurpose Heartland Building Into Transitional Housing

A Madison-based property management group that just recently began managing transitional housing for vulnerable populations approached the Black Earth Village Board in September with a proposal for the former eldercare facility in town. The ambitious project would turn the shuttered facility into transitional housing with 52 rooms, with 25 reserved for Veterans. 24/7 staff support including licensed clinicians will aid in recovery and wellness.

Council Moves Towards November 2026 Campus Decision

During a nearly two-hour discussion on Oct. 21, the Middleton Common Council set a calendar for a final decision on the city’s campus plan — involving the city’s downtown campus of buildings that include the Middleton Senior Center, the Middleton Public Library and Middleton City Hall.

School Board Approves $134 Million Budget, Higher Tax Levy for 2025-26

At its October 27 meeting the Middleton Cross Plains Area School District board of education established a mill rate of $8.62 (up from $8.32 last year), approved a tax levy of $101,150,730.00 and approved an operating budget of $134,221,639.00 for the 2025-2026 school year. As a result many property owners will see larger tax bills.

MHS' boys spikers take aim at a title

The goal was never an unbeaten season.

No, the objective was always a gold ball.

Now, Middleton’s boys volleyball team has an opportunity to get two for the price of one.

The Cardinals rolled past Madison West, 25-15, 25-18, 25-23, in a WIAA sectional final last Saturday. Middleton now takes aim at its second state championship in three years.

The Cardinals improved to 36-0 overall and are the No. 1 seed at state, where they’ll face eighth-seeded Kenosha Indian Trail in a state semifinal Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

The state semifinals are Thursday and the state finals are Friday.

And if things go according to plan for the No. 1 ranked Cardinals, they’ll be hoisting a gold ball at some point on Friday evening.
