Setting preseason goals is part of the preparation for most high school programs around the state.
But it was a no-brainer what topped the list for Middleton’s girls soccer team when the Cardinals got together to discuss what they wanted to accomplish during their 2024 season.
“The girls said: ‘The boys won it, so it’s our turn now,’ ” Middleton head coach Mary Duffy said, referring to the WIAA Division 1 state championship won by Middleton’s boys soccer team last fall. “I said, ‘All right, let’s bring it then.’ ”
With 15 returning letterwinners, led by the strong senior class of Mia Balistreri, Abigail Florin, Sophie Kasel, Thea Rohlwing, Samantha Von Ruden, and Lucy Jiao Wyse, the Cardinals are surely thinking. ‘Why not us?’
Which is just fine with Duffy.
“We expect to win. We always like to win,” Duffy said. “There’s never a chance we’re on the field that we’re not looking to win.”
