MADISON–Former Middleton and McFarland resident Grace Marie Forsmo, 78, passed away on Oct. 8, 2022. She was born on Dec. 4, 1943, the daughter of Arley W. and Linda J. (Kemmer) Nesson.

In 1961, she graduated from Middleton High School where she was a member of Future Homemakers of America (FHA), Girls Athletic Association (GAA), chorus, and the girl's glee club.

On May 15, 1965, Grace married Gordon Clair Forsmo at Saint Bernard Church in Middleton. At the time of their marriage, she was employed at the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles, while Gordon worked at Gateway Sporting Goods.

Grace was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Verona. Her favorite hobbies were knitting, quilting, putting together (and donating) jigsaw puzzles, as well as doing MANY word search puzzles. While a car ride in the country always brought her peace, it was her gift of providing emotional comfort through listening and offering a soft smile that will remain etched on our hearts. Her light spirit and joyful laughter will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her son, Joseph "Joe" Forsmo of Stoughton; her daughter, Jennifer (Mark Shaffer) Weigel-Shaffer of Madison; as well as her grandchildren, Kendra Forsmo, and Alex and Brett Weigel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon (Jan. 24, 2006); her parents, Arley (April 30, 1982) and Linda (June 23, 2004); and her three siblings, Arthur Nesson, Barbara Stein, and James Ronald Nesson, and her niece, Molly Michele Nesson Bonner (Oct. 14, 2018).

A private family service and interment was held last month. Gunderson Funeral home, 7435 University Ave. in Middleton, ably served the family. Online condolences may be made at gundersonfh.com.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hahn, nurse Christina, pharmacist Gary, Mr. Miller, and the helpful SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital nurses and certified nursing assistants that provided Grace support, care, and a smile over the years while she was residing in Verona and more recently in Madison.

Mom (Grace), we love and thank you for the love that you shared with us.
