The City of Middleton has proclaimed June 21 as “Eileen Kelley Day.” The Proclamation follows:

Honoring Eileen Kelley’s 31 Years of Distinguished Service to the City of Middleton & Declaring June 21, 2019, as “Eileen Kelley Day in Middleton”

Whereas, Eileen Kelley has served the City of Middleton as its City Planner & Zoning Administrator, faithfully, honorably, effectively and with an ever-ready smile and Good Neighbor attitude for the past 31 years (1988-present); and

Whereas, Through Eileen’s skill, knowledge, experience and diligence, Middleton’s planning for growth and conservation has benefited its residents immensely, helping to make Middleton one of America’s Top 10 Places to Live, according to CNN/Money Magazine from 2005-2013; and

Whereas, Eileen’s optimistic, can-do attitude is indispensable to the functioning of a high-performance city. Some of her most notable contributions are the work to create two Tax increment Districts that have been very successful; beneficial intergovernmental agreements with the Towns of Westport and Springfield; extensive changes to Middleton’s floodplain that enabled major quality of life improvements and increased tax base; a comprehensive plan produced in-house; the development of Middleton Hills and Greenway Station and much more; and

Whereas, Eileen excels at reaching consensus among disparate people and groups placing the city’s best foot forward in the highly charged atmosphere of the development community. Moreover, she is an effective team player at City Hall, utilizing her consensus-building skills to foster a sense of family among fellow employees; and

Whereas, Eileen has been Middleton’s best goodwill ambassador for the past 31 years, and her colleagues will miss her (and her children and grandchildren!) tremendously.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Gurdip Brar, on behalf of the Middleton Common Council, do hereby declare June 21, 2019, “Eileen Kelley Day in Middleton” and proclaim, honor and commend Eileen Kelley for her highly distinguished 31-year tenure of public service to the City of Middleton as our Director of Planning & Zoning Administrator. Also, we invite the general public to help us honor Eileen at her retirement celebration on June 21. On this, 18th day of June, 2019, we extend our sincere thanks for Eileen’s dedicated and valuable service and wish her a long, healthy and fulfilling retirement with husband Michael, her children, grandchildren and many friends.

This proclamation was adopted at a regular meeting of the Middleton Common Council this 18th day of June, 2019.
